January 27, 2016

Offering a large suite of outdoor activities and unique adventures, Costa Rica is the perfect place for an incredible trip. This destination, identified as the greenest place in the world in 2009, is bordered by Caribbean Sea to the east and by the Pacific Ocean to the west, having a tropical climate all the year round. So the conditions are favourable for all kind of activities, surfing, mountain biking, cruises, forest explorations.

If you are looking for activities like these, here are some suggestions for you to make your adventure trip a great one. You need about 8-10 days to visit the main locations and to experience extreme sports, but this it’s worth it.

You can start your adventure in La Fortuna. Here are so many options for you! It is the place where Arenal Volcano is situated, so you can hike around the base of the volcano while listening its rumblings and why not, while meeting monkeys. There is a also an amazing waterfall nearby, where you can try canoeing or swimming, but remember that the water is very cold! You can explore the caves from surroundings and don’t miss to go on a tour in Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge. The area is full of over 600 species of birds.

The next destination would be Monte Verde. Two-hours cycling journeys are available here, with hills and obstacles on the road, so it is for the experienced ones. Then you can choose for relaxation on a boat tour across Lake Arenal. Another option is a walk through the Cloud Forest, where the fresh mountain air will enchant you. Don’t forget to experience a canopy tour above the jungle and to visit the coffee plantations.

Then it comes the relaxing part, the beach time. Beaches like Santa Teresa and Malpais are heavily frequented, especially by surfers. For the less-experienced ones, there are surf lessons available. Or you can choose to simply relax on the black sand and swim through the rough waves. Next to Malpais it is Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve, a place worth to explore and to admire stunning panoramas.

You can complete your vacation by visiting Sámara, with beautiful beaches along Pacific Coast. It is also a place of relaxation and silence, but there are also things to do for the active ones: surfing, snorkeling, fishing and horseback riding. There are also zip-line adventure tours through the forest available for those who want to get closer to monkeys, iguanas and colorful birds.

After a day full of adventure and new experiences, you can enjoy delicious seafood at the restaurants from the beach and try to take some pictures in the sunset. It’s an amazing view! To get there, check the complete list of available flights to Costa Rica on TripEconomy.
